From our teachers' playbook

Press play, then watch them learn

What can kids learn from educational videos?

Our videos are short, catchy and made for little learners. Kids meet every letter with its own song, count by 2s, 5s and 10s, sing through the four seasons and even tour all 50 states. A video does its best work when kids are doing something while it plays: singing, pointing, clapping or acting it out. The magic moment? When a child hums "A says /a/" under their breath while writing the letter later that day.

How we turn screen time into learning time

A video is a starting point, not the whole lesson. These three moves keep kids thinking instead of just watching.

Watch once, sing twice

Play the Letter A Song once just to enjoy it. Play it again and have kids sing along while they draw a giant A in the air. On the third round, pause and ask "What sound does A make?" Now they own it.

Why it works: words set to a repeating melody are easier to recall than the same words spoken (Wallace, 1994).

Pause and point

Hit pause during the Seasons Song and ask, "How do we know it's fall here?" Kids hunt the picture for clues like falling leaves or jackets. Talking about what they see turns a song into real science talk.

Why it works: pairing a picture with each word gives kids two ways to remember it, a well-tested principle of how people learn (Mayer, 2009).

One video a morning

Rotate counting songs through the week: fives on Monday, threes on Tuesday, fours on Wednesday. A few minutes at morning meeting is plenty. By Friday, kids are skip counting on the way to lunch.

Why it works: short practice spread over several days beats one long session, according to a large review of learning research (Dunlosky and colleagues, 2013).

Questions parents and teachers ask about videos

What ages are these educational videos for?

Most of our videos are made for preschool through 2nd grade: alphabet, letter sounds, counting and early science. A few, like the 50 States Song, are great for older kids too.

How do I use learning videos in my classroom?

Keep them short and active. Play one at morning meeting, as a transition, or to kick off a lesson, then follow it with a quick task like a letter hunt or counting real objects.

Do kids actually learn from watching videos?

They learn the most when they join in. Singing along, answering pause questions and doing a follow-up activity turn watching into practice.

Are these videos good for centers or homework?

Yes! A listening center with a letter song and a matching worksheet works beautifully. At home, one song before dinner is an easy, low-prep routine.

Which video should I start with?

For little ones, start with the Alphabet Song and the letter songs. For kindergarten and up, the counting-by songs build skip counting that pays off later in multiplication.
